Anatomic Pathology: Immunopathology

• Well differentiated endometrial carcinoma of the endometrioid type is characterized by immunoreactivity for anticytokeratin 7 (anti-CK7), antiestrogen receptor (anti-ER), antivimentin, and anti-PAX-8.

• Well differentiated adenocarcinomas of breast, lung, colon, and pancreas are usually antivimentin negative and many are anticarcinoembryonic antigen (anti-CEA) positive.

• Most colon cancers are positive for anti-CK20 and negative for anti-CK7.

• Only breast and endometrial carcinomas tend to stain for anti-ER.

• As far as adenocarcinomas are concerned anti- thyroid transcription factor 1 (anti-TTF-1), antimammaglobin, anti-CDX-2, anti-CA19.9, and anti-PAX-8 are used as markers for lung/neuroendocrine, breast, intestinal, pancreatobiliary, and genitourinary/thyroid primaries, respectively.
