Pulmonary adenocarcinomas are usually anti-CEA positive and anti-ER negative. Anti-TTF-1 would be useful to confirm the diagnosis of pulmonary cancer.
The above immunophenotype could be seen in breast cancer, although mammary cancers are rarely antivimentin positive. Anti-WT-1, however, is not a marker for breast cancer.
Colorectal carcinomas are commonly anti-CK20 positive, anti-CEA positive, anti-CDX-2 positive, anti-CK7 negative and anti-ER negative.
Pancreatic adenocarcinomas are usually anti-CEA positive and anti-ER negative. Anti-CA19.9 would not be useful to confirm the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, since it is positive in many different types of adenocarcinomas, including stomach, biliary, and lung cancers.
The immunophenotype mentioned above is the most common for endometrial carcinoma of the endometrioid type, which also would stain for anti-PAX-8.
