Diagnosis: Drug Abuse
• Crack is usually smoked and gets its name from the popping sound it makes when heated. On the street, this vial sells for a few dollars. Crack became very popular in the 1980s because of its rapid high and because it can be sold for a very low price in a single dose size.
• MDMA, also known as ecstasy, is a synthetic methamphetamine. MDMA is usually ingested orally.
• MDMA and GHB are popular club drugs.
• Heroin is heated to create a liquid substance that is then injected into a vein.
• Rohypnol is a prescription sedative/hypnotic that is unavailable in the United States. It has a reputation as facilitating sexual assault (“date rape drug”).
