Anatomic Pathology: Salivary Gland Pathology

• The acini in the parotid gland comprise serous secretory cells only.

• Parotid gland acini may also contain rare sebaceous cells.

• The acini in the submandibular gland contain mostly serous cells, as well as occasional small clusters of mucous cells.

• The acini in the sublingual gland contain mostly mucous cells.

• The acini in minor salivary glands of the oral cavity contain variable combinations of serous and mucous cells.
